| Question: Schneider SS80/4.5XL on the Fotoman 69
|
Hi, on your upcoming 6x9 camera, you state that the lenses that it would be possible to use are the same as on the 612 camera. Is this correctly understood? I would love to use a Schneider Super Symmar XL 80mm/4.5 on a compact 6x7/6x9 camera, but it doesn't seem to be on your list. Is there a cone compatible with this lens?
Answer ( Click to view answer ) 7/16/2008 4:06:43 PM
| Hi Christian, all of the lenses supported on our 612 camera will be useable directly on the upcoming Fotoman 69. The Schneider Super Symmar 80/4.5-XL is listed... it's just a bit farther down the list on the product web page (alphabetical). Because the Fotoman 69 and Fotoman 612 use the identical Cone Assemblies, if you already have one of our 612 cameras, there's no need to buy additional Cone Assemblies. Changing lenses/Cone Assemblies between cameras is a breeze. |

| Question: What to buy first?
|
Hello! I cannot decide what to buy first: lenses or a camera (i want 617!) I don't know whether your 90mm (for example) cone is the only one cone that will suit any lenses, or should i buy lenses and than tell you its name.
Thank you!

| Hello Pavel, you really need to decide on lenses first. Every lens has a different FFD (flange focal distance), with each Cone Assembly designed to match. We need to know the brand, model, and speed... i.e. Nikon 90/8-SW, or Rodenstock 90/4.5 Grandagon-N. |

| Question: Fitting a lens not on your list (90/3.5 Congo)
|
Dear Paul, great news about the 6x9 camera! Would it be possible to find a way of mounting a lens that is not listed? I have a Commercial Congo 90/3.5 lens which gives a classic "tessar" look wide open. It's mounted in a Copal 0 shutter. FFL 79.5 mm. Many thanks.

| Hi George, not a problem... just be sure to provide the FFD when you order the Cone Assembly, as I'll surely forget. |

| Question: Helical Focus Mount-S
|
If I were to use a Super angulon 90mm f8 what distance would I need between the Helical Focus Mount and the film plane? How does your mount attach to the lenboard?
Answer ( Click to view answer ) 7/14/2008 8:22:00 AM
| The distance between the HFM and film plane will be the same as the lens' FFD (flange focal distance). In the case of the 90/8SA, that would be 98.8mm. Four M2 screws are used to affix our HFM. We supply the screws... you will have to have holes drilled and threaded in your lens board... or use M2 nuts behind the board. |

| Question: New Fotoman 6x9
|
Paul
Your new Fotoman 6x9 camera specification differs quite a lot from your original intentions or at least to my mind expected specification.
1. It appears that it does not take 35 and 38 mm lenses. Your statement below "(47mm thru 360mm)"
2. Widest lens with shift will be 58 mm (as Fotoman 6x12). This excludes most popular SA 47 mm lens as well as Grandagon 35 and SA 38 mm lenses. Originally you promised that new Fotoman 6x9 camera will take 35, 38 and 47 mm lenses with shift.
As you know these lenses need shift the most, because of greatest image distortion when camera not level.
Also, does it mean that simple 6x9 panoramic (film on a straight path) camera with shift will not be produced?
Answer ( Click to view answer ) 7/13/2008 3:36:46 AM
| Hi Nikola, full details have yet to be published, so please bare with us... The Fotoman 69 WILL NOT ACCEPT the Rodenstock 35mm in any configuration. The Fotoman 69 WILL ACCEPT all lenses 38mm and longer, for use with or without the optional Shift Adapter. Note: we do not (and will not) have a Viewfinder Mask for the 38mm focal length. Using the 38XL will require Ground Glass viewing. There will NOT be a Fotoman 6x9 camera like our 612 panoramic camera, as the Fotoman 69 will do everything (and more), while being less costly.

| Question: 612 cones/shift-cones compatability
|
Hi Paul,
I have a question about the compatibility of 612 cones and 612 shift-cones. For a given lens (Rodenstock 65/4.5 for example), I suppose I can't use its regular 612 cone on the 612 shift adapter - which explains why you make shift cones. Now, considering the situation vice versa, i.e., can I use a lens fitted with its 612 shift-cone directly on the Fotoman 612 body without using the shift adapter? I'm asking this question because the 612 shift-adapter looks a bit bulky and there're many cases when I don't need the shift function; and I don't want to buy/carry two cones for one lens, if possible. Thanks!

| Hello Han, Shift-Capable Cone Assemblies INCLUDE a 15mm Spacer, to be used in place of the Shift Adapter (also 15mm) when you want to lighten your load... or simply don't need movements. Standard (non-shift) Cone Assemblies cannot be used with the Shift Adapter, because they are 15mm too long. |

| Question: 5X7 Film Holder

Hello,
I read on Photo.net that you are making 5x7 film holders? If this is correct can you tell me if they are available and if so how much for, including shipping to Australia?
Jon
Answer ( Click to view answer ) 7/12/2008 4:12:24 AM
| Hi Jon, indeed, our 5x7 film holders will be shipping very soon. We would ask that you contact your local dealer (Mainline) to order these. |

| Question: Is DIY fitting of lenses possible?
|
First of all, what GREAT news about the upcoming Fotoman 6x9!!! Now I would like to know, if one already owns a lens that is supported by the Fotoman system, is it possible to mount the lens yourself on the Helical Focus mount, or do you need to send it to a trained technician?
Answer ( Click to view answer ) 7/11/2008 3:46:37 PM
| DIY lens mounting and calibration is a cornerstone of our system. Mounting the lens to the HFM is no different than mounting it to a lens board. Calibrating the HFM is very simple... taking maybe 10 minutes the very 1st time... much faster for the next lens. Over 95% of our 1000+ Fotoman Users have mounted and calibrated their own lenses without assistance. The other 5% bought complete camera/lens combinations, which we calibrate here at the factory. Download the Users manual from our "technical" webpage... inside, you'll find detailed instructions.

| Question: ground glass and cones for horseman 612
|
Hello, I would like to know if Fotoman makes a ground glass for horseman 612? If so what will be the price? I heard that Fotoman's glass is much brighter than Horseman's and if Fotoman can make one for Horseman SW612 that'll be great! Also could you please tell me the price-quote for Fotoman-made cones for Horseman SW-612? I'm interested in cones for 65mm, 75mm, 90mm, 150mm, 300mm and 400mm(if supported). Thanks a lot!
Answer ( Click to view answer ) 7/9/2008 6:19:13 PM
| Hello Han, to date, we have not looked at the Horseman 612 GG situation. I'll take a look and advise. We can make Cone Assemblies for the Horseman 612, which will allow mounting of all the focal lengths you have referenced. To prepare a detailed quote, we will need to know specifically which lenses you intend to mount. Please address any further communications in this regard, to, paul.droluk@fotomancamera.com |
